Rhinoplasty- Nose Surgery Beverly Hills

Dr. Tarick Smiley is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills, California. He is also an active member of the Plastic Surgery Foundation for which he has received 1st place awards for his publications and presentations.

A rhinoplasty can modify the general outline of the tip or of the bridge, slim down the range of the nostrils, or alter the angle between your nose and your upper lip. Rhinoplasty is an art. Dr. Smiley is an expert in sculpting the nose for results that appear natural –and specializes in Asian rhinoplasty, Persian rhinoplasty, Caucasian rhinoplasty and African American rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty, more commonly known as a nose job, is one of the most common procedures in plastic surgery. Nose job procedures can serve dual purposes, creating a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, as well as to help breathing conditions, such as a deviated septum.

Whether due to injury or genetics, many people have trouble breathing through their nose. Septoplasty with rhinoplasty can counteract this by straightening out the septum and removing any blockages, clearing the airway so you can breathe freely. Often time Septoplasty procedures are covered by insurance however rhinoplasty for cosmetic reasons is not. Although many patients opt for both procedures, many patients choose to undergo rhinoplasty solely for cosmetic purposes for a number of reasons.

  • Nose Reduction – Adjust the size of your nose with rhinoplasty for better balance and harmony.
  • Tip Reduction / Tip Plasty – Whether you have a bulbous tip or feel your tip is too droopy or upturned, a tip plasty is a highly specialized procedure performed to refine the tip of the nose.
  • Nostril Rhinoplasty – You can address concerns with your nostrils with a plastic surgery nose job. With nostril surgery you can increase or decrease the size of the nostrils, as well as adjust their width.
  • Dorsal Hump / Bridge Correction – Improve the bridge of your nose by removing a dorsal hump, fill in depressions, adjust the slope of the nose or adjust the width of your nose with rhinoplasty.
  • Crooked Nose Correction – Straighten the bridge and tip of the nose for a more symmetrical appearance.
  • Angle Adjustment – Correct the angle of the nose and upper lip.
  • Nose Graft Surgery – Nose grafts allow rhinoplasty doctors to add shape to a nose, particularly in cases of small nostrils and revision rhinoplasty.

Since no two noses are alike, no two procedures are the same. Dr. Smiley is a specialist in this intricate and delicate surgery. He is truly an artist creating not just beautiful noses, but the best rhinoplasty for the individual to create balance and harmony of the face. Numerous studies have shown that the nose is actually the least important feature; however, when the nose is large or disproportioned, it draws attention away from the eyes and the lips. This is why the best nose job is one that is adjusted to best fit the face and enhance other complimentary features. In some cases a chin implant is used to create this improved proportion.

When considering rhinoplasty, it is important to have realistic expectations. The best nose job for another person may not be the best nose job for you. It is important to take into account the structure of your face, including ethnic distinctions. Dr. Smiley is an expert in ethnic rhinoplasty, which is highly specialized and intricate.

In plastic surgery, nose job procedures can be performed utilizing different types of techniques. During your complimentary consultation, the type of technique that is best for you and your goals will be discussed.

OPEN RHINOPLASTY VS. CLOSED RHINOPLASTY

When it comes to surgical rhinoplasty, surgeons have two options for incisions. They are referred to as open rhinoplasty and closed rhinoplasty. Open rhinoplasty is performed by making a small incision under the columella, the space between the nostrils. This technique provides better visibility and increased access for the surgeon. This technique is most commonly utilized to correct bulbous or bulky noses and to reshape “difficult” noses. Although this nose job technique leaves a scar on the outside of the nose, scars are very faint and discrete. In most cases, Dr. Smiley performs closed rhinoplasty which is a scarless technique performed to reshape the nose through incisions made inside the nose. This highly specialized technique also allows for faster healing time, less swelling and less bruising.

NON-SURGICAL NOSE JOB

Patients looking to improve symmetry, correct depressions, and increase volume in parts of the nose may be good candidates for a non-surgical nose job. Dr. Smiley utilizes advanced placement of dermal fillers to correct the shape of the nose through non-surgical methods. Although this type of nose job is not permanent, it may be beneficial for those looking a small change with lower rhinoplasty cost. Non-surgical rhinoplasty however cannot provide the same results as a plastic surgery nose job.

SEPTOPLASTY / DEVIATED SEPTUM SURGERY

Many breathing problems are caused by a deviated septum which is a condition where the septum which separates the inside of the nose is disproportionate, hindering the ability to breathe. This condition may also lead to chronic sinusitis, sleep apnea, nasal turbine problems and other related nose problems. Many patients who undergo a cosmetic nose job also opt for septoplasty at the same time. This can also be referred to as a septorhinoplasty.

REVISION RHINOPLASTY

Dr. Smiley is highly specialized in this corrective procedure and offers complimentary consultations to discuss your particular needs. Revision rhinoplasty may require either an open or closed technique, depending on the structure of your nose and the corrective action necessary to achieve your aesthetic goals.

No. Most patients seek nose jobs to improve their appearance, but there are other patients who need rhinoplasty for breathing issues. These are often patients who have structural abnormalities like a deviated septum.

Before Rhinoplasty Surgery

When considering rhinoplasty, it is important to research the procedure, rhinoplasty surgeons including before and after pictures, and to have realistic expectations about your potential results. It is important to select a rhinoplasty surgeon who is board certified in plastic surgery. Nose job procedures are highly specialized, so it is also recommended to select a surgeon who has extensive training in this particular procedure, including revision and reconstructive cases. Be sure to have clear communication with Dr. Smiley, discussing what you want and what you don’t want. Pictures are an excellent way to help communicate the features you like and do not like.

After Rhinoplasty Do’s:

  • Wear gauze under the nose for the first 3-4 days to absorb bleeding
  • Utilize saline spray after surgery to cleanse the inside of the nose
  • Follow Dr. Smiley’s instructions for aftercare
  • Utilize scar cream one week after rhinoplasty (if open technique)

How Much Does a Nose Job Cost?

The cost of surgical rhinoplasty can vary greatly depending on the type of procedure and the amount of time needed to perform the procedure. Rhinoplasty cost includes OR fees, doctor fees and anesthesiologist fees. After meeting with Dr. Smiley, your physician consultant will be able to determine which type of procedure is right for you and be able to quote your rhinoplasty cost. Additional costs include lab work, scar cream for after rhinoplasty, Arnica to prevent bruising and Bromelin to prevent swelling.

The cost of non-surgical rhinoplasty is significantly less than that of surgical rhinoplasty, however non-surgical rhinoplasty typically lasts only about 6-8 months. Dr. Smiley uses Restylane to provide volume and reshape the nose. The cost of rhinoplasty through non-surgical techniques vary depending upon the number of syringes needed to achieve the desired aesthetic. Each syringe costs about $450. We aim to provide the best possible service and results at affordable prices.

After Rhinoplasty Surgery

After rhinoplasty, Dr. Smiley will place a splint on the top of the nose to protect the structure, since it will be very delicate after rhinoplasty surgery. He may also place packing or splints inside the nose if necessary as well. Gauze will be taped just under the nose to absorb any bleeding. Mild bleeding after rhinoplasty is normal for the first few days. Gauze should be replaced every few hours or as necessary.

7-10 days later, splints and packing will be removed by Dr. Smiley. At this time many patients feel relief and are able to breathe much better. Swelling and bruising will dissipate over the next month. 90% of the final result can be seen after 3 weeks, however, it may take up to a year for all swelling to dissipate and the nose to be refined.

After rhinoplasty, patients need to be extremely careful as to not disturb the healing process.

After Rhinoplasty Don’t s:

  • Do not blow your nose for the first two weeks
  • Do not wear sunglasses for at least 3 months
  • Do not smoke at least 2 weeks before and two weeks after surgery
  • Do not participate in activities that may compromise the nose
