Out of Town Patients

1. Schedule your consultation

Schedule your consultation with Dr. Smiley by filling out the form on our contact us page. You can also give us a call at (310) 275-1662.

2. Send us your photos

Following the appointment time, you will receive an email from our office inviting you to sign up for OnPatient, where you can submit your photographs and complete our patient permission forms. Send us crisp pictures of your side and front perspectives, please. You should take pictures that capture your areas of concern clearly and in ideal lighting. Your images must be supplied to us via OnPatient in order to preserve your privacy. When you get our “Patient Privacy Consent Form” from our office after your planned session, please review and sign it before sending us any images or sensitive information.

3. Phone or video consultation

Once we receive your photos and consultation documents, we will schedule a time to speak with Dr. Smiley over the phone or via video consultation to go over the exact procedures you are interested in and to find out if you are a candidate for surgery. Dr. Smiley will address all of your concerns and go over the details of the procedure with you.

4. Schedule your procedure

Following your consultation, our surgical expert will help you choose a date for your surgery and provide you with a quote for the treatment. To reserve your surgical date, a deposit is needed.

5. Read and sign

We will send you a packet with pre- and post-operative instructions and permission paperwork for your treatment as soon as your surgery is booked. Kindly carefully go over all the documents, initial each one, and sign them. Please contact us by phone or email if you have any questions. Before surgery, Dr. Smiley will go over the instructions and consents with you.

6. Required clearance/labs

Before the procedure, you will require normal blood tests and a medical clearance from your physician. To ensure you have enough time to be seen, we advise you to make an appointment with your doctor as soon as you schedule your procedure. The tests have to be completed 14 days before to the day of surgery in order to allow enough time for results to be obtained and reviewed. Your age, overall health, and the scheduled treatments will determine which specific tests need to be ordered. We will examine your consultation form and send you the list of necessary lab work and medical clearance.

You must undergo a mammogram if you are thinking about having breast surgery. This needs to be scheduled ahead of time. For a mammogram to be considered genuine, it must have been performed within the last 12 months. We will require the report that you submit us.

Following your procedure, prescription drugs will be necessary. The forms for these medications must be completed at least the day before surgery. After you arrive, you have the option to purchase them in Los Angeles.

7. Travel plans

You must schedule your trip so that you can arrive at least one full day before your treatment and make your final pre-operative visit with the doctor. Before surgery, you will receive an email with consent paperwork and instructions, which our doctor will go over with you during your pre-operative visit. Three weeks or less before the procedure is the pre-operative appointment. We’ll conduct it over the phone or through video conference.

Before you can go back home, you must spend at least a week in Los Angeles. How long it takes will depend on your treatment and the distance you are traveling. Throughout your visit, an adult must accompany you. We can assist you in setting up a caregiver to look after you following surgery if you are unable to go with someone. After surgery, patients typically stay for one week, and for more involved treatments, they may stay for up to two weeks.

8. Cancellation policy for office procedures and/or surgery

Dr. Smiley and his office take a big pride in providing unparalleled medical care and quality service for all patients every step of the way. To make sure that is accomplished, the following cancellation and rescheduling policy for both non-surgical and surgical procedures is necessary and is strictly enforced. Any changes to this policy must be approved and done in writing by Dr. Smiley’s office.

Non-surgical procedures:

Payment for certain non-surgical procedures (i.e.ThermiVA), $500 deposit (Botox, Filler) will be collected at the time of scheduling your appointment to secure your appointed time for your procedure.

Cancellations/Rescheduling 4 weeks prior to your procedure(s) will result in a charge to your account of 100% of the procedure or $500 deposit (Botox/Filler)

Surgical procedures:

Surgical scheduling requires careful planning and coordination between our office, the Surgery Center and their operating room staff, as well as the anesthesiologist. In addition, special medical instrumentation is prepared and sterilized for each individual procedure. Additionally, the doctor’s surgical schedule is planned for months in order for her to be able to provide exceptional medical care and quality service that her patients expect from her. For this reason, the following cancelation & rescheduling policy is strictly enforced:

  • The surgery deposit of $2500 is non-refundable and collected at the time of surgical day reservation.
  • Cancellation/Rescheduling at any time will result in a loss of the surgery deposit. Rescheduling will require an additional $2500 to reserve a new surgical date. Each time a surgery is canceled or rescheduled, this will result in a charge of $2500 which is NOT applied towards the total surgical fee. Only one surgery deposit is applied towards the surgical fee.
  • Cancellation/Rescheduling 4 weeks prior to your procedure date will result in a 50% loss of the surgical fee plus $2,500 surgery deposit.
  • Cancellation/Rescheduling 2 weeks prior to your procedure date will result in a 100% loss of the surgical fee plus $2,500 surgery deposit.

Payment for the surgical fee must be received in full 4 weeks prior to your surgery date or your surgery may be cancelled and you will lose the surgery deposit and your surgical date. Acceptable forms of payment are by credit card, CareCredit, cashiers check, or cash. If you use a credit card for the payment and a refund becomes necessary, the processing fee charged by our credit card processing company (3%) will be deducted from the refund.
